HT/FT Betting Explained: The Half Time/Full Time Market
By AfriPredictions · · 2 min read
HT/FT stands for half time / full time. In one bet you predict two results: who is leading at half time, and who wins at the end of the match. Both parts must be right for the bet to win.
The nine HT/FT outcomes
| Pick | Half time | Full time |
|---|---|---|
| 1/1 | Home leading | Home wins |
| 1/X | Home leading | Draw |
| 1/2 | Home leading | Away wins |
| X/1 | Level | Home wins |
| X/X | Level | Draw |
| X/2 | Level | Away wins |
| 2/1 | Away leading | Home wins |
| 2/X | Away leading | Draw |
| 2/2 | Away leading | Away wins |
The full-time part is settled after 90 minutes plus stoppage time, so extra time and penalties do not count.
Worked example
You pick X/1 on a home favourite. The match is 0-0 at half time and the home side wins 2-0. Both parts are right, so the bet wins. If the home side had scored before half time, the half-time part would have been "1" and the X/1 pick would lose, even though the home team won.
What to look for
- Strong favourites who start fast often suit 1/1 or 2/2.
- Favourites who take time to break teams down can suit X/1 or X/2, because many of their games are level at the break.
- Evenly matched, low-scoring games are where X/X comes into play.
- Comebacks such as 2/1 or 1/2 are rare, which is why their odds are very high.
Why HT/FT pays more
Getting two results right in one bet is harder than getting one, so HT/FT odds are higher than a simple 1X2 pick on the same team. It suits smaller stakes and matches where you have a clear view of how the game is likely to unfold.
