Over 1.5 Goals Explained: What It Means and When It Wins
By AfriPredictions · · 2 min read
Over 1.5 goals is a bet on the total number of goals in a match. It does not matter which team scores or who wins. You only need two or more goals in total.
How over 1.5 settles
| Final score | Total goals | Over 1.5 | Under 1.5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0-0 | 0 | Loses | Wins |
| 1-0 | 1 | Loses | Wins |
| 1-1 | 2 | Wins | Loses |
| 3-0 | 3 | Wins | Loses |
The line ends in .5 so there is always a clear result: a match cannot finish on exactly one and a half goals. Like most football markets, it is settled on 90 minutes plus stoppage time, so extra time and penalties do not count.
Over 1.5 or over 2.5?
Over 1.5 needs one goal fewer than over 2.5, so it comes in more often and the odds are lower. A match that finishes 1-1 or 2-0 wins an over 1.5 pick but loses an over 2.5 pick. Many punters use over 1.5 as a steadier selection inside a multibet, and over 2.5 when they want a better price.
What to check before picking over 1.5
- Goals in recent matches. Look at both teams' last five or six games. How many finished with two goals or more?
- Home and away records. Some sides score freely at home and struggle away, so split the numbers.
- Defensive record. A team that rarely keeps a clean sheet makes goals more likely at both ends.
- Match situation. Cup ties, relegation battles and games where a draw suits both teams can be tighter than usual.
- Team news. Missing strikers or a changed goalkeeper can shift the picture.
