What Does BTTS Mean? Both Teams to Score (GG/NG) Explained
By AfriPredictions · · 2 min read
BTTS stands for both teams to score. Many Kenyan betting sites show the same market as GG/NG ("goal goal" and "no goal"). It ignores who wins. The only question is whether each team scores at least once.
How BTTS settles
- BTTS Yes (GG) wins when both teams score at least one goal.
- BTTS No (NG) wins when at least one team fails to score.
| Final score | BTTS Yes (GG) | BTTS No (NG) |
|---|---|---|
| 1-1 | Wins | Loses |
| 3-2 | Wins | Loses |
| 2-0 | Loses | Wins |
| 0-0 | Loses | Wins |
Two details catch people out. First, an own goal counts for the team it is credited to, so it can complete a BTTS Yes. Second, most bookmakers settle BTTS on the 90 minutes plus stoppage time; goals in extra time or penalty shoot-outs usually do not count. Rules differ slightly between bookmakers, so check yours.
What makes BTTS more or less likely
A BTTS pick is really two questions: can the home side score, and can the away side score? The useful evidence is:
- Scoring record. How often has each team scored in its recent matches, home and away separately?
- Defensive record. Clean sheets matter as much as goals. A side that rarely keeps a clean sheet helps BTTS Yes.
- Match situation. A team that only needs a draw may sit deep, and cup ties or end-of-season games can change how open a match is.
- Team news. A missing first-choice striker or goalkeeper can shift the picture.
- Head-to-head. Past meetings add context, but squads change, so we weigh recent form more heavily.
How AfriPredictions makes BTTS picks
Our model estimates how many goals each team is likely to score from its recent attacking and defensive numbers. From those expected goals it works out the probability that both sides score. When that probability is clearly above or below 50%, and the price is reasonable, it becomes a BTTS Yes or No pick. You can see today's selections on our BTTS predictions page.
BTTS in accumulators
BTTS picks are popular in multi-bets because they do not depend on the result. Remember that every extra selection multiplies the risk: five picks that each have a 60% chance only all come in about 8% of the time.
